Amber Zietz Midwifery
Your midwife.
Through birth and beyond
NICE TO MEET YOU!
I believe good care begins with a relationship—with time to listen, understand what matters to you, and make thoughtful decisions together. Whether I’m caring for you through pregnancy and birth, midlife and menopause, or simply helping you care for the body you’re in, my approach is the same: personal, evidence-informed care that leaves room for questions, conversation, and plans that can evolve as you do.

Thoughtful, relationship-centered care for pregnancy, home birth + postpartum.
Unhurried care for sexual, reproductive and gynecologic health.
Evidence-informed care for the changing body, symptoms, sexuality + health ahead.
PREGNANCY + HOME BIRTH CARE
Pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum seasons are deeply personal experiences.
I offer private midwifery care throughout pregnancy, home birth, and postpartum in the Portland + Vancouver area. Prenatal visits take place in your home, creating time and space for care within the environment where you live your everyday life.
Throughout your pregnancy, we will prepare for birth in ways that are practical and evidence-informed while also making space for the emotional, intuitive, and deeply human dimensions of the experience.
My approach has been influenced by midwifery tradition and by the works of Ina May Gaskin and Pam England, whose writing has helped expand the conversation about birth beyond the purely clinical. We can talk about what you want, what you're experiencing, the choices available to you, and how your ideas about birth may evolve as pregnancy progresses.
By the time labor begins, we will have spent your pregnancy getting to know one another. When it is time, I will come to you to attend your birth and continue caring for you and your newborn afterward.
Care may include:
• Prenatal care in your home
• Birth preparation + informed-choice conversations
• Lab collection (billed separately)
• Labor + home birth care
• Postpartum care
• Newborn care through the first 28 days
• Coordination with other healthcare providers when appropriate
If you are considering home birth, we can begin by talking about what you are looking for in your care.
WELL BODY CARE
Imagine a wellness visit with time to talk before you're asked to change into a comfy robe.
Well-body care is an opportunity to look at your health more broadly—what is going well, what has changed, what you're wondering about, and what you want for your health in the years ahead.
Visits are unhurried and trauma-informed. We talk first. If an exam is useful, I'll explain what I'm recommending and why, and you decide what feels right for you. You'll have privacy, a robe rather than a paper gown, and a comfortable environment designed to make an intimate exam feel as human and respectful as possible.
Care may include cervical cancer screening and Pap testing, breast and pelvic health, family planning and contraception, sexual and reproductive health, laboratory testing, and preventive care.
When useful, we can also look beyond the traditional annual exam—exploring nutrition, sleep, movement, metabolic health, stress, sexual wellness, and other factors that influence how you feel and function. I incorporate a functional-medicine perspective where it adds value, while keeping our decisions grounded in clinical evidence and your individual health history.
You don't have to arrive with a problem.
Sometimes the question is simply: How am I doing—and how do I want to feel?
MIDLIFE + MENOPAUSE
Sometimes it begins before you're ready to call it menopause. Sometimes you've crossed the threshold years ago.
Your cycle changes. Sleep changes. Energy changes. Sex changes. Your body feels different.
Something is asking for your attention.
Perimenopause can affect the way you experience your body, sexuality, cognition, mood, strength, skin, sleep, and energy. At the same time, the amount of information about hormones and menopause has exploded—and it isn't always easy to know what applies to you.
This is a place to bring those questions.
We can explore what you are noticing, your health history and goals, what may be contributing to the changes you're experiencing, and how you would like to feel different.
Depending on what we discover, it might lead us toward further evaluation or testing, treatment options, hormone therapy, nutrition, movement, sexual wellness, sleep, other wellness strategies—or simply observing something more closely before deciding what to do.
There is no single way to move through menopause.
The question is what makes sense for you—and what you want this next part of your life to feel like.
MEET YOUR MIDWIFE
I have been a certified nurse-midwife for more than two decades, caring for people through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, providing gynecologic care, and supporting them through many of the changes that happen across our lives.
My journey to midwifery started with the birth of my son in 1990. I felt funneled through the traditional OB care system. Important decisions were made for me by my doctors and the system I was engaged with.
Then, I met a midwife. By chance at the library. Searching for books on cesarean section because my son was breech, and I was told I would be scheduled for a C-section.
She gave me information about what might help my son turn into a head-down position, the risks and benefits of a breech birth, as well as a C-section. Through this chance meeting in the stacks of a local library, I felt empowered to make decisions that aligned with my values; I found my calling as a midwife.
Now, in my own midlife, I find myself searching for the same attention and care I offer my pregnant and newborn clients.
The landscape of midlife care is changing. I am excited to be on the forefront of this exciting era of empowerment.
T

The word "midwife" itself means "with woman," and that relationship has remained at the center of my work. That concept of person-centered care is founded on listening, understanding, presenting information in an unbiased manner, and supporting your decisions throughout our seasons.
